Addbike

What do you do if you have to bring along not just one, but two children on your bike? Stay at home? Not an option for Renaud Colin! He preferred the idea of making it possible to accommodate his two children (or alternatively a dog, or up to 110 liters of luggage) on a bicycle. His bicycle. Because anyone can buy a cargo bike, but only AddBike can turn your beloved bicycle into a cargo bike!

Things to know about AddBike

Two years is a long time, but good things take their time. And so, after founding AddBike in 2015, Colin and his team allowed themselves a full two years to launch their first cargo bike. They worked on various prototypes until the early summer of 2017, and then the time had finally come ... a version had been developed that was good enough for serial production.

Yet it is not actually the bike itself that the bike-enthusiasts from Villeurbanne, France, make. Much rather, it's the trunk, the cargo area or the sidecar. An AddBike transport box is mounted on an existing bike, its two wheels simply replace the front wheel.

Three different versions of the AddBike cargo bike box:

AddBike for transporting children: The passenger box for children looks like a regular bicycle trailer. However, it is not attached to the back of the bike, the children ride in front of you, they sit in comfortable seats, are well secured with seat belts and you can always keep an eye on them. It is suitable for children from the age of 2 years up and up to a height of 120cm or a body weight of 35kg.

Addbike cargo bike for dogs: instead of child seats, a comfortable seat mat accommodates dogs up to 35kg.

AddBike for transporting cargo: Here you have two different options, there is a cargo platform or a spacious box, both can be loaded with up to 110l content or 35 kg weight.

Your AddBike cargobike has many advantages!

The advantages of the flexible system are quite obvious. Above all, you don't have to buy a pricey cargobike. If you already own a high-quality bicycle or e-bike, you can turn it into a transport wonder without having to invest a lot of money.

You also don't have to get used to operating a new bike. With the exception of a brake lever, your bike's handling remains the same as it was before.

For many people, it's not easy to find a bike that feels really comfortable. And if you've been lucky enough to find one, why should you let it gather dust in the bike cellar just because you have to take the kids along, because your dog is getting older, or because you want to do your shopping more eco-friendly by bike in the future? Don't worry, you don't have to! The transport box allows you to ride the bike that suits you best, while taking advantage of a large loading capacity.

Especially if you have a lightweight bike, you may find yourself hauling significantly less weight with an AddBike than with a regular cargo bike. A cargo e-bike easily weighs around 50 kg. AddBikes weigh in at around 13 to 17 kg, so with a lightweight bike or e-bike, the total weight will stay well below that mark, if you're lucky. If there are no climbs on your way, you can even manage short distances without an electric motor.

And what would happen to the expensive cargobike, once the kiddies cycle on their own or the dog no longer need a lift? Right, it would gather dust in the bicycle cellar. If that's the case, you can simply convert your AddBike back into a normal bike.

Bike/e-bike or cargo bike? Bicycle/e-bike and cargo bike!

AddBike cargo bikes work together with almost any bike!

If you ride a city bike, trekking bike or mountain bike, it should be possible without much trouble to mount an AddBike. The assembly also possible on most e-bikes, even folding bikes, longtail bikes and compact bikes work as a vehicle Only road bikes, BMX bikes and fatbikes don't fit.

You can also use most forks and suspension forks in combination with an AddBike box, also many handlebar shapes work well. Only drop bars and carbon forks can not be attached to an AddBike.

From 20 inches to 29 inches - AddBike Cargobikes are also compatible with all tire sizes

Cargo box on, cargo box off - the conversion is absolutely simple!

The conversion of your bike into a cargo bike is very easy. You only have to remove the front wheel and secure the QuickFix bracket to the fork. In a second step, attach the brake lever, that operates the disc brakes of the AddBike - and you're ready to go!

You can also buy different adapters directly from AddBike, the mounting can be done on many different axles and dropouts.

As you can see, an AddBike offers the greatest possible flexibility. The conversion is so quick and easy that you can decide every day, whether you go "with or without".

Curve Assist System

Cargo bikes are available with two or three wheels. Both have their advantages, but of course there are also disadvantages. A two-wheeled cargo bike is really long, thats why it has a huge turning circle – "just like a bus". Ion the other hand, it can go around corners elegantly and safely. A three-wheeled cargo bike is more compact, but these transport wonders tend to break out of curves. If you drive too fast and too closely around a corner, a three-wheeled bike might tip over.

This is why AddBike has developed a technology that allows its tricycle to take any curve. Thanks to the Curve Assist System, the bike tilts to one side, that helps keeping it stable on the road. The cargo platform always remains horizontal, your dog / luggage / children remain upright and secure.

The AddBike cargo bike

After the great success of the AddBike bike add-ons, the company has also ventured to build its own electric cargo bike. U-Cargo Lite has an extended and reinforced rack that will hold up to two child seats or 80kg of cargo. There are a lot of accessories that make the ride more comfortable and safer for your passengers.

Simply turn your bike into a cargo bike!

You can order the AddBike transport boxes right in our online store. Separately, BMO also offers the appropriate lighting and adapters that fit the AddBike to your fork. Unfortunately, we do not have helmets for your dog in stock. But if you will be transporting children, they should wear a helmet, even if they are securely strapped into a spacious passenger box.
